ECO built its reputation as builders. We are carpenters aware that our craft has to extend beyond quality construction. With designer Aaron Whitney on the team ECO is now a design-build company, capable of carrying projects from concept to completion. There are distinct advantages to the design-build process; even commercial projects are turning to this “delivery” system. With Aaron’s decade-plus experience in ecological design, green building follows naturally.

Energy modeling is the third leg of ECO’s stool. The embodied energy of construction materials is a small percentage of the operational energy required to heat, cool, light and maintain a building. So many factors affect this energy demand that it is not enough to follow rules-of-thumb or checklists. Modeling allows a specific structure to be compared with other identical structures differently configured. Through iterations an ideal design can be achieved.
