Bobcat Lane
Built with staggered stud walls to reduce thermal bridging, virtually all the framing lumber came from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified forests. In those days there were no lumber yards handling FSC wood in Eugene. These clients showed their commitment by having us rent a U-Haul, drive to Bend, hand pick FSC lumber for the entire house, load it all, and haul it back!
This house also includes passive solar orientation, a ground source heat pump, open cell spray foam insulation, radiant floor heat, concrete floors for thermal mass, metal roofing, a heat recovery ventilation system for continuous fresh air, FSC formaldehyde-free cabinetry, bamboo flooring, solar hot water, and Land Ark plant oil finishes. Both the house and garage were oriented and roughed in for future solar PV, which was subsequently added.
